TAMPA - Raymond James Stadium is shedding its Buccaneers pewter in exchange for Cardinals red and Steelers yellow.
Sprinkled throughout the city and surrounding suburbs in anticipation of the Super Bowl, colorful banners, signal box covers, signs and posters are helping the Tampa Bay area get its game face on.
Some 1,100 light pole banners greet people flying into Tampa International Airport, lying on the beach in Clearwater and wending their way across the Courtney Campbell Parkway.
Late last week, the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee also began passing out "Get Your Game Face On" buttons, cardboard cutouts and table covers that local restaurants and businesses can use to rev up the locals in preparation for the game Feb. 1 at Raymond James Stadium.
"People are really going to start to see the decor changes leading up to the Super Bowl," said Lauren Pasqualone, events coordinator for the host committee. Now that the teams have been decided, changes will move swiftly, Pasqualone said.
The nonprofit committee serves as liaison between the city of Tampa and the National Football League. For its part, the city is installing $40,000 worth of new landscaping.
In addition, the Tampa Downtown Partnership will cover signal boxes with art drawing visitors to attractions.
