A 47-year-old Largo woman decided to serve rum shots to her underage children Monday and later struck her son's 21-year-old girlfriend in the head with a 4-foot-long construction level, Largo police say.
Deborah Castonguay was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
After Castonguay decided to serve the rum shots to her underage children, an argument began, and Castonguay decided she wanted "all parties to leave her residence," a Largo police release states. "The argument continues and Ms. Castonguay confronts her son's girlfriend on the porch of her house and proceeds to strike her in the head with a 4-foot construction level, knocking her unconscious."
Sgt. Andy Hill wrote in an e-mail to the Tampa Tribune that the victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was able to communicate with investigators and hospital staff.
"Cat Scan revealed no fractures and the injury was listed as a laceration that required stitches only," he wrote in the e-mail. "I believe the child was treated and released."
Castonguay's son is 21, as is his girlfriend, but other children within the home also received alcohol, Hill wrote.
When a 14-year-old boy tried to call for help, Castonguay took the phone away, police say.
