Gulfport police have arrested two St. Petersburg 16-year-old boys on charges they took part in a carjacking Saturday night. Two others involved have not been identified, said Lt. Robert Vincent of the Gulport Police Department.
Tavaris Bradford and Amir Samuels were each charged with one count of being a principal to an armed carjacking. In addition, Samuels was charged with fleeing and eluding after the stolen 2007 Chevrolet Malibu bolted from police.
The Malibu was stolen in the 5100 block of Tangerine Avenue in Gulfport, Vincent said. The victim had just pulled into the driveway when he was attacked by four teenagers who had pulled up in a blue minivan, Vincent said. One of the four had a gun and struck the victim in the head with it after taking the victim's car keys, Vincent said.
Shortly afterward, a sergeant with the Gulfport Police Department spotted the car going south in the 1000 block of 49th Street, but when he tried to pull it over, the Malibu bolted, prompting a pursuit that ended with the sergeant losing sight of the car, Vincent said.
The car was later spotted by St. Petersburg police at about 5 p.m. Sunday and another pursuit ensued, Vincent said. The teens were then arrested.
