TAMPA - University of South Florida senior guard Jesus Verdejo will not play tonight against DePaul.
The Bulls' second-leading scorer, Verdejo suffered a concussion Saturday at West Virginia and underwent a root canal on Monday. Against West Virginia, Verdejo's head collided with a West Virginia player, apparently causing his front teeth to jam up into his head. USF was not aware of Verdejo's concussion until he passed out after Saturday's game in the shower.
USF coach Stan Heath said Monday he hoped Verdejo would be able to play.
Verdejo is the only USF player who has started all 17 games. He's averaging 14.2 points, but only 9.0 points in Big East play. Either Justin Leemow or B.J. Daniels is expected to start for Verdejo.
