Man Dies On I-75 Trying To Retrieve Fallen Ladder

A 48-year-old man died on Interstate 75 in Manatee County about 8:55 a.m. today after trying to retrieve a ladder that had fallen from his vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers did not identify the man because his family had not been notified.

According to troopers, the man had stopped his 2001 Nissan pickup in the inside southbound emergency lane to retrieve the ladder. But he crossed into the path of a 2005 Dodge four-door, which struck him, flinging him into the center lane, troopers said.

The Dodge's driver, Felicia Green, 20, of Ruskin, struck the man's parked pickup after the crash, troopers said.

No charges were filed. Alcohol was not involved, troopers said.
