Police Say Men Wrongfully Obtained Oxycodone

An investigation beginning with the sale of less than a gram of Oxycodone and Xanax two months ago has led to the arrest of a man Temple Terrace police say got more than 1,600 Oxycodone pills from doctors.

Police arrested Rocky Shukitis II at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday at Superior Pharmacy at 11531 N. 56th St.
The 27-year-old Tampa man was charged with eight counts of obtaining a controlled substance by withholding information, two counts of selling a controlled substance and one count each of trafficking in Oxycodone and possession of marijuana.

The undercover investigation started Nov. 22 at a bottle club at 14975 N. Nebraska Ave., when Shukitis sold narcotics to an investigator, according to a criminal report affidavit.

Police say that between October 2008 and January, Shukitis got Oxycodone eight times and received more than 1,600 pills. When he was arrested, he had 304 Oxycodone pills and a small amount of marijuana in his possession, the affidavit states.

Nine minutes later at the same pharmacy Tuesday, police arrested David Melton, 41, of St. Petersburg. Between June 2007 and Tuesday, Melton got Oxycodone 42 times from different doctors by withholding information, police say.

Twenty of those occasions were within Hillsborough County, and 22 were in Pinellas County, and he got 2,130 pills in Hillsborough alone, a criminal report affidavit states.

Melton told investigators he got the pills to support his girlfriend's habit, according to the affidavit.
He was charged with 20 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by withholding information and one count of trafficking in Oxycodone.

Details weren't immediately available on whether the arrests of Shukitis and Melton are connected.

Melton remained in Falkenburg Road Jail today, and Shukitis remained in Orient Road Jail. No bail has been set for either man.
