No. 2 Duke Prevails

DURHAM, N.C. - Gerald Henderson scored 21 points and No. 2 Duke pulled away late to beat North Carolina State 73-56 on Tuesday night.

Nolan Smith hit consecutive 3-pointers 30 seconds apart to start the decisive run for the Blue Devils (17-1, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). They closed the game on a 27-5 run and shot 76 percent in the second half.

Kyle Singler had 14 of his 17 points in the second half, and Smith finished with 13 to help Duke overcome a poor start.

Brandon Costner and Ben McCauley both scored 15 points for the Wolfpack (10-6, 1-3).

NO. 25 ILLINOIS 67,

OHIO STATE 49

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Mike Tisdale scored 15 points and No. 25 Illinois won its first game this season with a national ranking, holding off Ohio State in a Big Ten game.

On Monday, the Illini (16-3, 4-2) made their first appearance in The Associated Press' Top 25 since the final poll of 2005-06. It was the Illini's first win against the Buckeyes (13-4, 3-3) in six games.

USF Women Roll Past Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Five players scored in double figures for the University of South Florida women as the Bulls defeated Providence 86-62 in a Big East game.

The Bulls (15-5, 2-4) were led by Jazmine Sepulveda's game-high 25 points, which included six 3-pointers. Shantia Grace added 18 points, followed by 12 points each from Janae Stokes and Jessica Lawson. Brittany Denson finished with 10.

Providence (7-11, 1-4) was led by Chelsea Marandola, who had 18 points.

NO. 7 LOUISVILLE 68,

CINCINNATI 50

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Angel McCoughtry had 23 points, nine rebounds and eight steals to lead No. 7 Louisville (19-1, 6-0) past Cincinnati (13-5, 3-2) in a Big East game for its 14th straight victory.

Candyce Bingham had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals.

NO. 21 RUTGERS 60,

WEST VIRGINIA 44

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Epiphanny Prince scored 24 points and No. 21 Rutgers (11-5, 3-2) held West Virginia (11-7, 0-5) without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes in a victory in a Big East game.

The Scarlet Knights were trailing 8-6 after Ashley Powell's 3-pointer with 13 minutes left in the half. Rutgers then went on a 20-5 run over the next 10 minutes, holding West Virginia without a field goal.

NO. 25 PITTSBURGH 76,

SETON HALL 40

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Shavonte Zellous scored 29 points to lead No. 25 Pittsburgh (13-4, 3-2) past Seton Hall (13-5, 2-4) in a Big East game.

It was the second straight blowout victory for the Panthers, who moved back into the Top 25 for the first time in two weeks on Monday. Pitt defeated South Florida 79-47 on Saturday.
