Four water tender trucks, each holding up to 4,000 gallons of water, were needed to battle a fire that destroyed a home in Dover late Thursday night.
The single-story house had flames shooting through the roof when Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived at 2908 Jerry Smith Road about 10 p.m. There were no hydrants nearby, fire Capt. Bruce Delk said. It took more than 30 firefighters and the four water tender trucks to put out the flames. Each truck holds between 3,000 and 4,000 gallons of water, Delk said.
No one was home when firefighters arrived, but the family returned while investigators were still there and found their home destroyed, Delk said. The American Red Cross is helping the family find a place to stay.
No one was injured, Delk said. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire yet.
