COOKIES FOR KICKOFF
We'll admit it: We like gnawing on food that is shaped like the sports we watch. Except when it comes to, say, horse racing. Nobody wants to chew on Mr. Ed. But this basket of cookies by South Florida's My Fast Basket Company would make a great gift for the football freak in your life. They're cute as well as delicious. Cost: 12 cookies for $39.95, 24 cookies for $54.95, and 36 cookies for $69.95. (Mention the coupon code "Football" and get a 10 percent discount.) Available at www.myfastbasket.com.
CUT IT OUT
You can do a lot with cookie cutters beyond just using them for baked goods. You can cut sandwiches into shapes, make Jell-O figures, mold ice cream sandwiches, let kids use them to trace colors and even cut fondant icing. Ann Clark makes football-shaped cutters that are perfect for the multipurpose needs of your next pigskin party. Each comes with an illustrated recipe card. Cost: $3.99. Available at www.annclark.com.
GAME DAY TREATS
It probably wasn't what Martha Stewart intended, but we cooked some of her new pork meatballs made with lemongrass and habanero chiles on a hot dog roller on our desk here at work. The meatballs, which are part of a grab-and-go line of food at Costco sold under the Kirkland brand, are perfect for serving at tailgate parties. (We also used some of Stewart's ready-to-eat chili to get a bit of spice on our hot dogs, but could easily have eaten it as a side dish.) Cost: $11.79 for a 23-ounce package of meatballs; $12.49 for 24 ounces of chili. Available at Costco.
