Hillsborough County deputies say heroin sales have picked up near 15th Street, south of 131st Avenue.
Maj. Albert Frost is encouraging residents to speak up to law enforcement about the problem. It's unclear how much heroin is being sold or whether heroin is being distributed outside the area, he said.
"It's a problem up there we're addressing," Frost said.
Citizens who would like to come forward should call deputies at (813) 247-8200 or (813) 986-7468, Frost said.
K.C. Poulin, chief executive officer for Critical Intervention Services, which provides security for apartments and businesses in the community, said he isn't surprised that deputies are trying to crack down on heroin sales there.
"The 15th Street corridor has always a lot of issues with crime and drug activity," he said.
