TAMPA - A 43-year-old man was charged with attempted second-degree murder Thursday afternoon after police said he tried several times to stab another person with a kitchen knife.
Dale Edwin Holley, of 307 Frances Ave. E., was also charged with armed kidnapping, according to a criminal arrest affidavit. He was arrested at 12:35 p.m. at his home, where the incident took place, the affidavit states.
Tampa police say Holley armed himself with a kitchen knife about 8 a.m. Thursday and swung the weapon at another man's chest. The man, whose name was not listed in the affidavit, managed to grab Holley's hands and prevent the stabbing.
As both men struggled, Holley repeatedly told the victim, "I'll kill you," according to the affidavit. Holley then tried to stab the man in the head, police say.
During the scuffle, Holley got behind the man and put the knife to his ribs, the affidavit said. Holley then forced the man to walk to the Lee Davis Neighborhood Services Center, about three miles away from Frances Avenue, police say.
The man was able to get away from Holley at the neighborhood center, the affidavit states.
Police did not list a motive in the affidavit. The man told police he has known Holley for about three years.
Holley was being held without bail Thursday night at Orient Road Jail.
