TAMPA - University of South Florida senior forward B.J. Ajayi suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee during Thursday's practice, ending his USF career.
Ajayi, who had started 12 of 18 games, was averaging 3.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. He's the second player USF has lost to a season-ending knee injury. Guard Mike Mercer suffered a torn ACL after playing only four games after joining the Bulls at midseason.
While the Bulls will be without Ajayi the rest of the season, senior guard Jesus Verdejo, who missed Tuesday's win against DePaul because of the lingering effects from a concussion, will play Saturday against No. 20 Villanova.
Verdejo suffered a concussion Saturday at West Virginia and underwent a root canal Monday. He is USF's second leading scorer, averaging 14.2 points.
