TAMPA - The city council on Thursday granted permission for a high-end movie theater in Hyde Park to offer cocktails with food and movies.
With a unanimous vote, the council approved the Alabama-based Cobb Theatre's request for a wet-zoning permit, allowing them to serve alcohol to patrons.
A required second reading on the request is scheduled for early February before the vote becomes official.
Cobb plans to begin construction this month of a CineBistro theater with six screens, reserved seating and dining tables. It wants to serve cocktails and appetizers in the lobby bar. Patrons will be able to order a meal and drinks before the movie.
The theater will be built on the corner of South Rome and West Swann avenues on the site of the former Sunrise Cinema. Each screening room will have about 85 seats.
