ZEPHYRHILLS - Patients at Florida Hospital in Zephyrhills got a scare this morning when heavy smoke filled the adjacent Grand View Medical Center and the fire alarm started ringing.
Firefighters from the Zephyrhills and Pasco fire departments arrived at the hospital, 7050 Gall Blvd., about 2:15 a.m.
They discovered the source of the smoke was a malfunctioning elevator in the Grand View Medical Center, Florida Hospital facilities manager Mike Gardner said. The elevator was not on fire and there were no flames, he said.
The patients were awakened when the fire alarm rang in both the medical center and the main hospital, but no one was evacuated, Gardner said.
Firefighters called Tampa for a fan truck to help air out the building. The hospital will be open for business as usual today.
