A faulty electrical outlet caused a fire that heavily damaged a St. Petersburg home early this morning, investigators say.
A St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue crew found heavy fire and smoke coming from the one-story house at 1035 26th St. N. when they arrived at 2:06 a.m.
The homeowner, Pamela Raynor, 49, awoke to the smell of smoke. Raynor, her daughter, 34-year-old Jeannette, and their two dogs escaped through a back door, Lt. Joel Granata said.
Firefighters forced open the front door and contained the fire to the living room and attic. The fire caused about $80,000 in damage, Granata said.
The home, which was built in 1925, had two smoke detectors but neither one worked, Granata said.
Investigators say a faulty electrical outlet in the home's living room started the blaze. No injuries were reported.
