TAMPA - Look out Jose Gaspar, an invastion of 3-foot pirates is storming around Bayshore Boulevard.
Stripes, patches and pretend swords dot the grassy median where families wait for 3:30 p.m. start of Gasparilla Children's Parade.
The bicycle rodeo, which started at 11 a.m. and concluded around 2:30 p.m., handed out 200 helmets as well as bike-safety tips.
"This is a captive audience. The big plus of this is that we can educate parents at the same time," said Tina Russo, senior parks manager for Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation, sponsor of the rodeo.
The Sostroms drove from Gainesville for the parade with 2-year-old son Ayler. "He likes parades and he loves pirates," said Dan Sostrom about his son.
"Arrrr," Ayler chimed in.
The only live video coverage of the Children's Parade is being carried on WTVT Fox 13's Web site.
