Mom Accused Of Leaving Child Unattended In Car

TAMPA - A woman is accused of leaving her 6-month-old unattended in a running truck while getting Mexican fast food, deputies said.

Cardia Scott, 21, is charged with felony child neglect and misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence. Scott was released from a Hillsborough County jail this morning on $2,500 bail, records show.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Scott about 8:47 p.m. Friday outside Chipotle Mexican Grill, 2576 E. Fowler Ave.

According to an affidavit, a deputy saw Scott's 6-month-old unattended in a child seat in the back of a running 2000 Chevrolet truck. The affidavit does not identify the child.

Upon seeing the deputy, Scott ran out of the eatery, asked if her child was crying and "indicated she was almost done getting her food," the affidavit states.

The deputy arrested Scott, who braced and pulled away from him several times, the affidavit states.

Child protection investigators were notified; the infant was left with a relative, the affidavit states.
