TAMPA - Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Luke McCown and free safety Tanard Jackson on Friday visited the West Tampa Elementary School classroom of fifth-grade student Roselyn Martinez.
Bucs players are visiting classrooms of 10 Hillsborough County students who, like Roselyn, won an essay contest sponsored by NFL Players, the marketing arm of the NFL Players Association. The competition is held each year in the city hosting the Super Bowl.
Local players visited the classrooms of the winning writers, who wrote essays titled "My Winning Moment." The players answered questions about their football careers and their lives outside the game.
Students in Roselyn's class each received an autographed miniature football, two tickets to the NFL Experience and a T-shirt.
The overall winner in Hillsborough County was Shayla Lewkowiez, who attends Northwest Elementary. In addition to the visit, Shayla won a chance to interview players during Super Bowl week and write stories for Weekly Reader and nflplayers.com.
