Man Killed On I-75 Was Tampa Resident

MANATEE COUNTY - Authorities have identified the person killed while retrieving a ladder on Interstate 75 Wednesday as a Tampa man.

Westley Dale Hearn, 48, was struck by a car when he walked into the southbound travel lanes to fetch a ladder that fell from his truck about 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened a quarter-mile south of the State Road 64 exit.

The man stopped in the inside emergency lane and darted to the center southbound lane to grab the ladder, FHP said.

There Hearn was struck by a car driven by 20-year-old Felicia Green of Ruskin.

Hearn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Green was not injured. No charges will be filed in the accident.
