A 53-year-old man's vehicle went off the road Sunday afternoon in Sarasota and became completely submerged in a pond, authorities say.
Stephen Lenentine was rescued by Sarasota County sheriff's deputies and taken to a local hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.
According to the sheriff's office, Lenentine's vehicle veered off the roadway and into a pond about 3 p.m. at Fruitville and Coburn roads in Sarasota. When deputies Gene Nault and Robbie Martin arrived, they saw that Lenentine's car was underwater.
Nault was able to free Lenentine from the submerged vehicle. Martin helped Nault get the driver out of the water. Lenetine was conscious and taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Lenentine has a medical problem that appears to have contributed to the crash, deputies say.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
