In recent weeks the Tribune has published many letters from apparent newcomers to Tampa who have absolutely no knowledge or awareness of the political history of this place. These writers bemoan the fact, sometimes to the point of being ignorantly insulting, that the Tribune focuses on local and state matters.
Tampa and Hillsborough County have a long history of corruption and indictments. And Tampa Tribune investigations started the ball rolling on darn near every one of those indictments.
Hillsborough politicians, judges, city and county managers and administrators, and land developers and various other big business interests would love to see the Tribune go out of business. Without the Tribune, this place would be New Orleans II - maybe worse.
Because of Tribune investigations, this is a reasonably decent place to live. If you want to keep the corruption, theft and political skullduggery down to a low roar, I would urge you to keep your subscription to the Tribune.
