NEW PORT RICHEY - A second suspect has been arrested in the home invasion that left a 21-year-old Shady Hills man dead in October.
Taequan Jamal Griffin was arrested by Pasco County detectives Monday, accused of killing Corey Evans during the Oct. 16 robbery at 18236 Oxenham Ave.
Just before 5 a.m., three men entered the home and were confronted by occupants, including Evans and some friends and relatives, detectives say. The home's owner, Kenneth Sheriden Evans, 25, was shot three times but has since recovered. Corey was Kenneth's cousin.
Griffin was also shot inside the mobile home, and his two friends dumped him at Spring Hill Regional Hospital, officials said. He was flown to a trauma center, lapsed into a coma and was not expected to recover, said Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kevin Doll.
He did recover recently, though, and had been living in Brooksville until his arrest.
He is being held without bail at the Land O' Lakes Jail on charges of first-degree murder and attempted felony murder.
Griffin, of 306 Armstrong St., Brooksville, told detectives he went to the home to steal drugs.
Calvin Washington, 20, of Brooksville, was arrested in November in the case. He also is being held without bail on first-degree murder and attempted felony murder charges.
A third man is still being sought.
