The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for an older model Oldsmobile or Buick that hit a teenager in Manatee County then drove away Monday.
Derrick Williams, 14, of Bradenton, was crossing U.S. 301 at State Road 70 about 4 p.m. when he was struck by a car that sped away, running a red light as it headed north.
The patrol said Williams was in serious condition at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.
The accident report said Williams was crossing U.S. 301 from west to east and had stopped at the median before heading across the northbound lanes when he was struck.
The patrol said witnesses described the car as older, full size and tan or brown. It is believed to be an Oldsmobile or Buick with the right-front fender replaced with one painted black.
It does not have tinted windows and may have damage to the front.
Anyone with information about the vehicle is asked to call the patrol at (941) 751-7647.
