TAMPA - With the district tournaments set to begin next week, Tampa Bay Tech girls basketball coach Heather Glezen said she's still trying to get junior guard Leria Jenrette in basketball shape.
But in the Titans' 58-56 win against Hillsborough on Monday - Jenrette's second game back since being stabbed in the lower back Dec. 31 - she showed no ill effects from her injury or lengthy layoff.
Jenrette barely missed a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
"It feels real good to be able to be out there with my teammates and help them get a win," Jenrette said. "It was so hard sitting out and having to watch them play knowing I couldn't be out there with them.
"I'm in good condition right now. It doesn't hurt when I play, but I wouldn't say I'm 100 percent. I'd say it's closer to like 80 or 90 percent."
Glezen said she can tell a difference in Jenrette's game since her return.
"Her sitting out made her hungry for the game," Glezen said. "She's really come back strong."
TBT (18-3) was led by the inside force of junior Jasmine Rodriguez, who finished with a game-high 20 points before fouling out late in the game.
"J.J. really stepped up for us," Glezen said.
Courtney Jenkins also reached double figures for the Titans, scoring 17.
"We still had way too many turnovers and mental lapses," Glezen said. "And with districts coming up next week, we have to continue to get better."
TBT improved its win streak to four, while the Terriers (15-8) have lost three of their past four.
Hillsborough was led by Shalisia Hall's 16 points and Datiana Flowers' 14.
