TAMPA - Aero Simulation Inc, a Tampa-based flight simulator design and manufacturing company, has won a $35 million subcontract and hired 25 employees to support development of an aircrew training system for the E-2D Hawkeye military early warning and control aircraft.
The contract will provide work for six years, ASI vice president and business manager Daniel Deschnow said. The company employs 85 at its East Adamo Drive site.
The contract was awarded in late August, but the local company just this week was authorized to release details of the deal.
The company will work with Rockwell Collins to provide the aircrew procedures and operational flight trainers for the Hawkeye, a twin-turboprop aircraft that has been a U.S. Navy mainstay and also has been purchased by military forces from Israel, Japan and other countries.
The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye will provide warning of enemy surface units, cruise missiles and aircraft and can direct interceptors or strike aircraft to attack.
