Fire Damages Lake Wales Apartment Complex

A fire at an apartment complex east of Lake Wales caused significant damage today but no injuries.
The blaze at a retirement community, 36101 Nalcrest Road, was called in to authorities at 12:23 p.m. The fire was at a six-unit, concrete block apartment that shares a common roof.
About 20 fire personnel responded. The residents who were in the apartment when the fire started had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.
Seven residents were displaced; the American Red Cross is assisting them.
The blaze was under control by about 2:30 p.m.; the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
