NEW PORT RICHEY - A 49-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon, accused of driving drunk and nearly causing several crashes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
When a trooper pulled Douglas Ervolino over at Little Road near Rancho Del Rio Drive just before 12:30 p.m. and asked him where he was going, the man was quick to respond, according to a report.
"I'm going to a DUI class," he said.
The trooper noticed that Ervolino smelled of alcohol, had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, the report states, so the trooper asked him how much he had to drink.
"I haven't had anything; I drank a few last night," Ervolino reportedly told the trooper.
When asked whether he had any medical conditions, Ervolino told him he has a liver disease.
He was arrested on a DUI charge and taken to the Land O' Lakes station where he agreed to a breath test of which the results were between .229 and .257, nearly three times the limit in which by state law a person is considered impaired.
Ervolino, of 4657 Parkway Blvd, Land O' Lakes, was taken to the Land O' Lakes Jail but released without bail just before 8 p.m. after agreeing to show up for future court appearances, booking records show.
