Deputies Interrupt 'Gambling,' Seize $14,000

BROOKSVILLE - More than $14,000 in cash was seized when deputies busted up a card game Monday evening.

Deputies went to 806 Twigg St. around 7 p.m. to find Bruce Warren, who reportedly had an active warrant for felony driving on a suspended license. Warren was found sitting at a table on the south end of the property with four other people. On the table were "numerous" decks of playing cards and money, an affidavit states.

Warren, 46, was arrested on the warrant; a search of his pockets reportedly turned up $688 in cash.

Another deputy asked the men sitting around the table if they had any drugs. Leslie Coleman, 34, reportedly produced a small bag of marijuana from his pocket. He was handcuffed and patted down.

An affidavit says Coleman had $10,442 on his person. One deputy commented about the amount of money and Coleman allegedly replied that it was his winnings from gambling.

While deputies were searching Coleman, another suspect, Shawn Fisher, 26, reportedly took off running on foot. He was caught behind a house on Leonard Street and arrested on a charge of resisting arrest without violence.

A fourth person, Shawn Fisher, 39, was charged with gambling and a search of his pockets turned up powder cocaine and marijuana, a report states. Another person standing nearby, Ivory Bivens Jr., 29, was caught dropping a bag of marijuana near his feet, a report states.

In addition to various drug charges, all suspects were charged with gambling. Deputies say they seized a total of $14,985 for evidence.

Florida law defines gambling as a game of chance played for money. It's a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in jail.
