As a 27-year-old woman was driving Tuesday night, she heard a noise in her back seat, looked over her shoulder and saw Thuong Van Nguyen hiding with a hammer, Hillsborough County deputies say.
Nguyen reached over the driver's seat, wrapped his arm around the woman's torso and ordered her to keep driving, an arrest report states. The woman stopped her four-door Honda Accord, exited it and ran to contact deputies.
Deputies arrested Nguyen, 25, 11502 Arbor Reserve Circle 113 , at 2:47 a.m. today. He was charged with carjacking, kidnapping, burglary and loitering.
The incident began 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after the victim exited the parking lot of a CVS at 6701 N. Dale Mabry Highway.
During the investigation, a white van was found abandoned at the CVS, its engine running. Nguyen, who matched a description of the carjacking suspect, was linked with the van, according to the report. Deputies found him loitering in a nearby apartment complex, and the victim identified him through a photo pack.
An arrest affidavit doesn't list a motive for carjacking and doesn't mention whether Nguyen knew the victim.
