Class 5A
Bloomingdale (13-3-2)

at River Ridge (17-2)

WHERE: Jim Valentine Athletic Complex, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Bloomingdale 28-19, 4A state champs (2001), 5A state runner-up (2006); River Ridge 2-6.

LAST YEAR'S QUARTERFINALS: Bloomingdale def. Land O' Lakes 2-0; Newsome def. River Ridge 1-0.

NEED TO KNOW: River Ridge was undefeated in district play during the regular season and won both games in the 5A-7 tournament. But the Royal Knights have had difficulty getting past the region quarterfinals, losing to Newsome twice and Bloomingdale once in the past three years. Bloomingdale lost to Newsome 3-0 in the 5A-8 district championship game. River Ridge goalkeeper Jessica Olin has only given up three goals in 520 minutes of action. As a team, the Royal Knights scored 72 goals while giving up 10.

Land O' Lakes (13-10)

vs. Newsome (21-3-1)

WHERE: Newsome Stadium, 16550 Fishhawk Blvd., Lithia

COACHES: Vicky King (Land O' Lakes); Kelly Townsend (Newsome)

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Land O' Lakes 16-13, 2A state champs (2003), 5A region champs (2004); Newsome 12-5, 4A region champs (2005).

LAST YEAR'S QUARTERFINALS: Bloomingdale def. Land O' Lakes 2-0; Newsome def. River Ridge 1-0.

NEED TO KNOW: Land O' Lakes is making its 15th region appearance in the last 16 seasons but hasn't gone past the quarterfinals since advancing to the final four in 2004. The Gators lost 3-0 to Newsome in the 2007 region quarterfinals. The Wolves avenged a regular-season loss to Bloomingdale by downing the Bulls 3-0 in the 5A-8 district finals. Karina Gutsche scored a hat trick for the Wolves to account for all the scoring. Goalkeeper Tara Marshall played all but 17 minutes for Land O' Lakes this season, recording a 1.65 goals-against average.

Class 4A

Orl. Bishop Moore (16-6-4)

at Hudson (20-2-1)

WHERE: Cobra Stadium, 14410 Cobra Way, Hudson

COACHES: Bobby Hurring (Bishop Moore); Christine Rizzieri (Hudson)

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Bishop Moore 47-14, five state titles (1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 2007), three state runners-up (1990, 1993, 1995); Hudson 0-2.

LAST YEAR'S QUARTERFINALS: Bishop Moore def. Springstead 4-0; Eustis def. Hudson 4-3.

NEED TO KNOW: Hudson advances to the region tournament for the third consecutive year, but it is still looking for its first quarterfinal win. The Cobras lost to Bishop Moore 5-0 in 2007, Hudson's first region appearance. Hudson's only losses came from 5A River Ridge (5-1) in the season opener and 6A Mitchell (3-1). Bishop Moore was ranked in the Orlando Sentinel's Super Six most of the season, but the Hornets lost to Eustis 5-1 in the 4A-7 district final. Lindsay Zullo (29 goals) and Alicia Schuering (26) have accounted for more than half of the Cobras' 93 goals. Goalkeeper Jesse Imbimbo has only allowed 12 goals in 1,480 minutes.

Zephyrhills (16-7-1)

at Eustis (18-4-1)

WHERE: Eustis Stadium, 1300 E Washington Ave., Eustis 32726

COACHES: Michael Mira (Zephyrhills); Wayne Lockett (Eustis)

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Zephyrhills 3-9, Eustis 2-4

LAST YEAR'S QUARTERFINALS: Zephyrhills did not qualify; Eustis def. Hudson 4-3.

NEED TO KNOW: When Laurren McLeod went down with a knee injury Dec. 3, the Bulldogs were 8-1-1 and McLeod had 21 assists in those 10 games. Zephyrhills struggled for a few weeks following McLeod's injury but bounced back to qualify for regionals for the first time since 2007. The Bulldogs have not won a region quarterfinal game since 1999. Brandi Mira's 38 goals lead all scorers in the area. Eustis knocked off top-seeded Bishop Moore in the 4A-7 district finals after losing to the Hornets in the regular season.

Class 2A

Bishop McLaughlin (10-4-2) at

Indian Rocks Christian (13-6)

WHERE: Indian Rocks Christian School, 12685 Ulmerton Road, Largo

COACHES: Tim Gronau (Bishop McLaughlin); Joe Raissi (Indian Rocks)

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Bishop McLaughlin 0-0; Indian Rocks 0-3.

LAST YEAR'S QUARTERFINALS: Bishop McLaughlin did not qualify; Tampa Prep def. Indian Rocks 6-0.

NEED TO KNOW: The Hurricanes are making their first appearance in the region tournament. Bishop McLaughlin lost 7-0 to Tampa Prep in the 2A-9 district final. Indian Rocks is quite familiar with Tampa Prep, as the Terrapins have eliminated the Golden Eagles the last three years. On Jan. 6, Bishop McLaughlin defeated Indian Rocks 4-2.
