Super Bowl Advertising Pays Off
Who knew that a key to a rebound on Wall Street could be a TV ad during the Super Bowl.
Researchers at Cornell University and the University at Buffalo found that the stock of companies that advertise during the Super Bowl will outperform the market by more than 1.5 percent in the 20 days after the game. The study will be published in the academic journal Economic Letters.
Companies with the top 10 most liked commercials each year outperformed the bottom 10 advertisers by nearly 2 percent in the 20 days after the game, the study found.
Simulator Company Wins Contract
Aero Simulation, a Tampa-based flight simulator design and manufacturing company, has won a $35 million subcontract and hired 25 employees to support development of an aircrew training system for the E-2D Hawkeye military early warning and control aircraft.
The contract will provide work for six years, ASI vice president and business manager David Deschnow said. The company employs 85 at its East Adamo Drive site.
Target Slows Store Openings, Cuts Jobs
Retailer Target Corp. said Tuesday that it will cut 9 percent of its headquarters staff, close a distribution center and reduce store openings as it battles the economy.
The staff cut includes 600 employees and 400 open positions, mostly in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. The company also plans to close its Little Rock, Ark., distribution center, which employs 500, later this year.
