ST. PETERSBURG - The Rays' 2008 success has made them an attractive pick for television networks heading into 2009.
Tampa Bay is currently scheduled to have six games broadcast on national networks, including a run of three Saturday afternoon Fox games in four weeks in May. The Rays also are on tap for an ESPN Sunday night game at Boston on May 10.
Here's the full list of games, which can be adjusted as the season unfolds: May 9 at Boston (Fox), May 10 at Boston (ESPN), May 16 vs. Cleveland (Fox), May 30 vs. Minnesota (Fox), June 20 at N.Y. Mets (Fox) and Aug. 29 at Detroit (Fox).
The Rays' local television schedule has not yet been released.
SETTING A DATE: The Rays' arbitration hearing with Dioner Navarro will take place Feb. 9 in Phoenix. Navarro plans to attend the proceedings, in which his agent Kendall Almerico will argue the All-Star catcher should be paid $2.5 million in 2009, while the Rays will counter with their reasons he should make $2.1 million. A three-person arbitration panel will choose one of those two salary figures within a few days of the hearing.
Marlins Ballpark Plans Released
MIAMI - Designs for the Florida Marlins' new ballpark were released for the first time Tuesday, more than two weeks before Miami and Miami-Dade commissioners vote on the stadium the team has long craved.
The plans show how the $515 million ballpark is expected to help invigorate the Little Havana neighborhood on the site of the now-demolished Orange Bowl near downtown. The retractable-roof stadium has a mostly white exterior, with windows beyond part of the outfield seats and palm trees lining the entrance.
City and county commissioners are scheduled to vote on the final contracts Feb. 13. If approved, the park is slated to open for the 2012 season.
RED SOX: Boston has given catcher Jason Varitek until Friday to accept or reject a one-year, $5 million contract offer with options for 2010.
ROCKIES: Ubaldo Jimenez and Colorado agreed to a four-year contract that guarantees the right-hander $10 million.
YANKEES: Left-hander Chase Wright was designated for assignment.
