TAMPA - A 10-year-old boy enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay got an early but timely birthday present today — two free tickets to the Super Bowl.
Tampa resident Geoff Powers and his "little brother" Ray will be in the stands at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday thanks to the donation of a woman in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program who won't be able to attend the game, the nonprofit organization said in a written statement.
"When I called to tell him about the tickets, he started screaming and his mother said he began jumping all around," Powers said in a statement. "He was so excited."
The written statement from the organization did not list Ray's full name. He turns 11 next week.
Powers met Ray through the agency's Sports Buddies program six months ago. The program, which focuses on sports and mentoring, encourages men to volunteer and get involved.
The two enjoy playing catch and working on school assignments, especially reading, the agency says.
