TAMPA - CVS Caremark, the company that operates CVS retail pharmacies, will close a mail-order pharmacy operation in Largo on March 31.
As many as 230 employees will be affected, according to a layoff notice sent to the state.
The company will try to place many of those workers in other jobs, including at Tampa Bay area CVS stores. However, those who can't be placed within the company will be offered a severance package including financial and health benefits and job placement support, said CVS Caremark public relations director Christine Cramer.
In an e-mail to the Tribune, Cramer said CVS Caremark decided to close the Caremark Pharmacy Services operation, at 8275 Bryan Dairy Road in Largo, because of changing business demands and as part of CVS' integration with Caremark Rx Inc.
In 2007, CVS merged with Caremark, which was one of the country's largest pharmacy benefit management companies.
