The latest installment in Woody Allen's European phase is unlikely to wind up in a double feature with "Fireproof." Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall are best friends spending the summer in Spain, where they are propositioned by a scandalous artist (Javier Bardem) and meet his tempestuous ex, played by Penelope Cruz. Things get complicated from there. PG-13, 96 minutes

This flashy, convoluted tale of the London underworld (another way of calling it a Guy Ritchie movie) features Tom Wilkinson, Gerard Butler and Thandie Newton in pursuit of money, land and art. Also making appearances are the Russian mob, a rock star and a flotilla of colorful gangster nicknames. Add a driving musical score, and you may find the word "mortgage" entertaining again. R, 117 minutes
