NEW PORT RICHEY - A 49-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon, accused of driving drunk and nearly causing several crashes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A trooper pulled Douglas Ervolino over at Little Road near Rancho Del Rio Drive just before 12:30 p.m. and asked him where he was going.
The man was quick to respond. "I'm going to a DUI class," he said, according to a report.
The trooper noticed that Ervolino smelled of alcohol and had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, the report states. The trooper asked him how much he had to drink.
"I haven't had anything. I drank a few last night," Ervolino told the trooper.
Ervolino was arrested on a driving under the influence charge and was taken to the Land O' Lakes station where he agreed to a breath test. His blood-alcohol level was between 0.229 and 0.257, nearly three times the limit at which state law labels a person impaired.
Ervolino, of 4657 Parkway Blvd., Land O' Lakes, was taken to the Land O' Lakes jail but was released without bail just before 8 p.m. after agreeing to show up for future court appearances, booking records show.
