TAMPA - Times Publishing Co., which publishes the St. Petersburg Times, wants to sell its Congressional Quarterly publication.
The sale is necessary to direct resources toward the company's Florida properties, including the Times, said Andrew Corty, spokesman for the Times.
"The newspaper business is not what it once was," he said.
While newspapers have suffered in this economy, though, Corty said CQ is growing and remains profitable. Based in Washington, D.C., it has 170 reporters, editors and researchers. It was founded in 1945 by former Times publisher Nelson Poynter.
Corty said the company is confident CQ will sell because it is a niche product, and the bulk of its business is digital. To keep growing, Corty said, CQ needs an owner with a national or international reach.
