TAMPA - Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels cocked back and threw a perfect strike while a crowd of fans cheered him on.
His target wasn't his usual catcher, though. It was a pair of fans sharing one offensive lineman-sized jersey and instead of baseballs he was tossing colorful foam footballs.
It was all part of the live television spectacle that has taken over Centro Ybor billed as the "Biggest Best Damn Super Bowl Bash Ever."
"The Best Damn Sports Show Period" was broadcast live from their outdoor studio in the Centro courtyard and included appearances by the Arizona Cardinal cheerleaders, the Hooters Calendar girls and a handful of past and present NFL players.
Cardinals and Steelers fans were omnipresent around the TV show's set. In fact, there was even a pair of Canadians from Winnipeg holding a sign reading "Canada is Steelers Country too eh!"
Local businesses seemed to be doing well for a Friday afternoon, especially those along Ybor's famous 7th Ave., the main drag though this historic part of Tampa once dominated by cigar factories.
