A DNA match has led to charges in a 1992 17-year-old sexual battery case involving a pre-teen girl.
Pinellas deputies have charged Louis Jerome Jones, 52, with one count of sexual battery on a child.
The girl's name won't be released because she was 12 when police said the attack occurred during a burglary in an unincorporated Clearwater residence on Oct. 5, 1992.
The warrant for his arrest was served at 11:30 a.m. today at the Pinellas County Jail, where Jones is being held by the Department of Corrections.
The home where the burglary occurred belonged to Jones' coworker, deputies say. They worked together at Palm Garden of Pinellas Nursing Home in Largo.
The sheriff's office said Jones entered the home when the coworker had gone to work, then held a sharp object to the girl's throat in the bedroom and sexually assaulted her.
The case was reopened in 2006, and last year, investigators discovered DNA linking Jones to the attack, deputies say.
Jones is currently serving a 22-year sentence at Martin Correctional Institute in Florida on unrelated sexual battery and burglary charges.
Those who worked at the nursing home in 1992 or any others who might have information about Jones and the case are urged to call Det. Kurt Romanosky at (727) 582-6200.
