TAMPA - Al Lopez Park kicked off Super Bowl weekend Thursday by hosting the Super Tailgate Throwdown.
The three-day event offers visitors an opportunity to savor what Tampa is about. The free festival features a car show, live cooking shows, children's zones and performances by U.S. Navy bands, rock band Down Jr., Latin reggae artist Neco and singer-songwriter Chantele DiBrava.
The main theme of the event takes place Saturday and includes barbecue connoisseurs competing for the title of "Super Tailgate Throwdown" and the grand prize of $3,000.
Festival-goers can also take part in eating contests and VIP parties.
