HOLIDAY - A Pinellas County teacher was arrested early Wednesday morning on two misdemeanor charges in Pasco, accused of head-butting his former girlfriend and trespassing into her home.
Jason Christopher Smelski, 27, is a language arts teacher at Coachman Fundamental Middle School in Clearwater. He faces charges of domestic battery and illegal trespassing.
Smelski was being held without bail Thursday afternoon at the Land O' Lakes Jail.
On Monday, Smelski went to his former girlfriend's home in Holiday Lake Estates to pick up their 3-year-old son and take him to day care, said sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll. Smelski, according to reports, pushed opened the front door after being told to stay out.
Smelski's former girlfriend repeatedly told him to leave her home but he refused and grabbed her by the shoulders and head-butted her, causing swelling and bruising to her right eye and forehead, a report states.
Finally, while yelling profanities, Smelski left with the boy to take him to day care, Doll said.
The girlfriend was later taken to Morton Plant North Bay Hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
A call to a school district spokeswoman about Smelski's status at the school and his background was not immediately returned.
