FSU Women Atop ACC

TALLAHASSEE - Mara Freshour scored a season-high 21 points and the No. 18 Florida State women upset third-ranked Duke 82-75 in overtime Thursday to grab sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Seminoles (18-4, 6-0 ACC) erased a six-point deficit in the final 45 seconds to get the game to overtime while winning their ninth straight and ending Duke's 15-game win streak.

Freshour's 3-pointer from the left side with 21.6 seconds left sent the game into overtime and she added another from long distance to spark the win. She also scored seven points in the final 4:14 of the half that pulled FSU to within three at halftime.

Duke (17-2, 5-1) was led by Jasmine Thomas' 16 points.

GAINESVILLE - Sha Brooks had 17 points and nine assists to help No. 12 Florida beat Kentucky.

Trumae Lucas had 14 points, and Marshae Dotson finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Florida (19-2, 4-1 SEC).

Carly Ormerod had a season-high 19 points for Kentucky (12-9, 2-4), and Victoria Dunlap added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Florida is 11-0 at the O'Connell Center and has won four straight overall.

GEORGIA: Dennis Felton was fired as coach of the Bulldogs on Thursday, one day after the team dropped to 9-11 and 0-5 in the SEC.
