Man Charged With Punching Horse

TAMPA - Maybe Trey Mathew Palmer was channeling Mongo, the bean-swilling cowpoke played by former NFL great Alex Karas in the movie Blazing Saddles.

Police say Palmer, 19, of 10227 Goldenbrook Wy, Tampa, was twice ordered by a mounted officer to get out of the middle of 15th Street in Ybor City shortly after 11 p.m. last night.

According to a report:

The first time, Palmer got back onto the sidewalk, walked about 15 feet, then got back into the road.
When the officer approached again, Palmer, listed in jail records as a guitar salesman, cursed at the horse and, like Mongo, punched the animal. Only Palmer hit the horse with both hands.

Palmer was arrested and charged with striking a law enforcement animal. He was released from the Orient Road Jail at 8:48 a.m. today on a $500 bond.
