LAND O' LAKES - After months of tense negotiations, Pasco County school employees may get new contracts next week.
Employees voted Thursday on recently negotiated pacts with the school district. The votes will be counted Monday night; then the contracts will go before the school board for approval the following day. The executive board of the United School Employees of Pasco has already recommended the contracts be ratified.
The contracts don't include raises or step increases. Under the agreement, the school district will continue fully funding health benefits for employees, which will include paying a $191 increase in per-employee costs. Employees will continue to pay to insure their family members.
Negotiations, which normally conclude before the start of school in August, dragged on for six months and were at a near standstill at one point.
