Staubach Down To Business

Two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer Roger Staubach served as the quarterback for a couple of football games at Jesuit High School on Thursday.

TAMPA - Less than a mile from the site of Sunday's big game, a group of area businesspeople experienced their own Super Bowl moment.
Two-time Super Bowl champion and Pro Football Hall of Famer Roger Staubach served as the quarterback for a couple of football games at Jesuit High School on Thursday.
Jones Lang LaSalle, a financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate services and investment management, rented the football field at Jesuit High School for the gathering, which was private and not open to the public.
"It's very exciting," said Terry McLaughlin of Bay Care Health System, a Jones Lang LaSalle client. "I can honestly say I caught a touchdown pass from a Hall of Famer."
The players had to endure a field wet from the rain in the hours leading up to the game. They played two 15-minute games with Staubach playing quarterback for each team.
"I played in my share of rainy days, but I thought all of that was behind me," Staubach said.
Staubach's real estate services firm, which was established in 1977, merged with Jones Lang LaSalle in June.
The gathering also featured food, music courtesy of Tampa's Three Peace Band and a drawing for Super Bowl tickets and football autographed by Staubach. More than 100 people were attendance and more than 30 participated in the flag football games.
"This is a man who's all about integrity and commitment and we're honored to have him here with us," said Chris Butler, managing director for Jones Lang LaSalle.
Staubach is on the Super Bowl XLV committee, which will host the big game in Dallas in 2011.
"Part of the reason we're down here is that we're doing work and checking out how Tampa puts on a Super Bowl," Staubach said.
As for this year's game, he's rooting for the Arizona Cardinals mostly because of bad experiences with their Super Bowl opponent. Both of Staubach's Super Bowl losses came against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"They've got a really wonderful franchise, but I still don't like them," Staubach joked.
