A blue heron shot with an arrow has lost its battle for survival.
The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary began tracking sightings of a wounded blue heron on June 21. The bird was captured shortly after midnight Monday in Maxino Park by the SPCA Tampa Bay. It was then taken to an emergency animal clinic, where its condition quickly worsened and died.
The sanctuary is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone with information leading to an arrest of the bird's assailant. Those with information can contact the SPCA Tampa Bay at (727) 586-3591, Ext. 135.
