The new law concerning buckling up is long overdue. A seat belt probably kept me from being seriously hurt in a wreck once. But requiring us to buckle up while permitting us to text message does not make much sense.
I watched a young man get into his car in a store parking lot. He buckled up. Great, I thought. As he pulled out of the lot, he began texting. Young and old alike do this. It is like reading a book and driving - so unsafe.
Let's make the roads safer for all of us. California passed a law against using cell phones in cars unless they contain technology that frees both hands. Might not be a bad idea to do that in Florida. I can hear the protests now.
