Road rage is being blamed in a fight and shooting that injured two men today in the parking lot of Palms of Pasadena Hospital.
It started when a driver in a car cut off a motorcyclist, who followed him into the hospital lot and punched the car's driver until the driver pulled out a gun and shot him, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrived at 1501 Pasadena Ave. in South Pasadena at 2:54 p.m. after someone reported seeing an armed person there, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Cecilia Barreda.
George S. Hall, 64, of St. Pete Beach was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries from the shooting. He then was arrested for burglary-battery.
A sheriff's report says Nathan Snyder, 83, of St. Petersburg fired at Hall in self-defense. Detectives said Snyder, who was driving a teal Hyundai, reportedly cut off Hall's motorcycle near the Gulfport Boulevard and Pasadena Avenue intersection.
Snyder was on his way to the hospital to visit his wife, according to the report. Hall had been heading home but instead followed him into the parking lot. When Snyder's car door opened, Hall began punching him in the head, according to the sheriff's office.
Snyder told detectives he feared for his life, so he grabbed his handgun and shot at Hall.
Witnesses called 911.
Tony and Kimi Broccone, who live behind the hospital, said they were sitting on their porch when they heard a "pop-pop-pop" and thought it was fireworks. Then they saw deputies converge on the parking lot and knew there was something else going on.
An ambulance took Snyder to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The investigation is continuing.
