LAND O' LAKES - Mary Jane Stanley, ex-president of the Pasco Economic Development Council, said this week she is ready to move on with her life after losing her job because of comments she made to a Tampa business magazine.
"It was time for a change," Stanley said in an interview Wednesday.
Stanley was quoted in a recent edition of the Maddux Business Report criticizing the county's historically cumbersome process for granting development permits.
Stanley said Wednesday the comment that got her in trouble was part of a broader discussion of how the county aims to streamline development review in the future. The critical comment was taken out of context, she said.
"It wasn't meant to be a derogatory comment," she said.
Stanley said she and her husband plan to visit relatives in Germany soon. She said she will focus on her job options after that trip.
Whatever those options include, Stanley said she plans to stay in the realm of economic development.
"It's in my blood," she said.
