HOLIDAY - The dress blue uniform of a U.S. Marine was stolen from his car parked outside his mother's house in west Florida, the 20-year-old man said.
Joseph Marshello told the St. Petersburg Times that someone stole the uniform, a GPS system and other clothing from his 1991 Honda Accord earlier this week. Marshello's car radio, black military shoes, CDs and cash were inside the car but weren't taken.
"It was labeled in military bags with my unit and rank," he told the newspaper. "I was disappointed somebody would take that."
The theft occurred sometime Wednesday morning and has been reported to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Marshello had returned home from a wedding at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday and left his belongings in his car. It appears he left a car door unlocked, however, and later that day, he discovered his uniform and other belongings missing.
"I was like, 'Oh my God,'" he said. "My uniforms are gone."
Marshello, a private first class radio operator, said he now looks for his uniform in area pawn shops and alongside roadways — in case someone threw it out.
Marshello enlisted in January 2008 and is now awaiting his next assignment to a military base. He said it has been hard to find work while he waits for his placement, which will make it difficult to pay for a replacement uniform.
